Refer to LAUSD's Early Childhood Education Division under Instruction.

Goals and objectives focus on:

  • Social/Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Cognitive Development
  • Language Development

Ages 3 - 5

Special Ed.

See also Kindergarten standards under Elementary Education. Pre-K work should prepare students to achieve these standards.

Simple counting (1-10) and letter recognition skills are a good starting point. Students should also learn to follow one- and then two-step directions, use a pencil or crayon to form simple shapes on paper, and perhaps write their own first names by tracing dotted-line letters or copying from a model. Children should learn to hold a book and turn the pages. They can recognize story sequence by discussing what they see in the pictures with you.
